Special Mode has a total of 40 Time Attack missions:
- 1 Min. Battle VS. Target
- 1 Min. Battle VS. Enemy
- VS. 12 Battle (8)
- Mystery (10)
- Puzzle (10)
- Variety (13)
- VR Mission
- Ninja (3)
- NG Selection (8)
1 Min. Battle VS. Target
Goal: The objective of each level is to eliminate as many targets as possible with a given weapon in one minute.
General Information:
- Bullet count at the end of the level is irrelevant.
- No other bonuses are applied to the timer.
- Targets generally have loops that can be exploited.
1 Min. Battle VS. Enemy
Goal: The objective of each level is to eliminate as many enemies as possible with a given weapon in one minute.
General Information:
- Bullet count at the end of the level is irrelevant.
- Sneaking bonus is irrelevant. In most cases, getting an alert is ideal.
- No other bonuses are applied to the timer.
- Enemies generally have loops that can be exploited.
VS. 12 Battle
Goal: The objective of each level is to eliminate all enemies and get to the goal before the timer runs out.
General Information:
- Bullet count at the end of the level is irrelevant.
- Sneaking bonus is irrelevant. In most cases, getting an alert is ideal.
- No other bonuses are applied to the timer.
Mystery
Goal: The objective of each level is to select the correct guard and choke them into the goal before the timer runs out.
General Information:
- For some levels, the correct guard can change every time a level is loaded in.
- Some levels are similar to each other (02, 03, 06, 08) and the fastest time achieved for one of them should be possible for the others.
Level 01:
The correct guard is on the right side.
Level 02:
The correct guard changes every attempt. The ideal one is in the middle.
Level 03:
The correct guard changes every attempt. The ideal one is in the middle.
Level 04:
The correct guard changes every attempt. The ideal one is in the middle. The correct guard must first hit the wall before completing the level.
Level 05:
Level 06:
The correct guard changes every attempt. The ideal one is in the middle.
Level 07:
The correct guard changes every attempt. Guards begin to move when the level description shows up, this can be used to have the correct guard walk closer to the goal before the timer starts.
Level 08:
The correct guard changes every attempt. The ideal one is in the middle.
Level 09:
The correct guard changes every attempt. The ideal one is in the middle. Snake must equip the mask first before completing the level.
Level 10:
This is an autoscroller, but initiating the mini-cutscenes will lose time. The final time for this level is different based on region:
- NTSC = 04:56:65
- PAL = 04:55:98
